Food as Art
I came across all the beautiful dishes that I sampled in my travels through Asia last year. It made me miss traveling. I don’t eat out much in my everyday mountain life. In many ways, I don’t think it’s worth all the money. In Asia, it’s much more affordable to eat out. Plus, I have more of a drive to try new things because I know I’m not likely to find them in the United States, especially in my small, tourist-centered mountain town where every restaurant seems to serve the standard American fare of burgers, salads, sandwiches, and fried appetizers. I don’t know where in the US I’ll find a shaved ice dessert like the one pictured above, which Laura, Amy, and I found upon Tess’s recommendation at a little shop in Xi’an, China where we were spending our summer teaching English to University freshmen.
